Centrally located in the most historic center of Lucca and only a few steps from Pizza San Michelle, you will be ideally situated to explore this ancient, medieval city. It is difficult to deny the charm of the Tuscan town of Lucca. The owner of the apartment, architect Clodagh Nolan, has fallen in love with the picturesque town and created a holiday home in the heart of the Historic Centre. The top floor of a four storey residential house has been renovated and redesigned into a spacious and bright duplex apartment for up to six people.

The bright and spacious duplex accommodation comprises a small entry leading into a stunning double-height fully-equipped modern kitchen (dishwasher, stove, oven, microwave, toaster), which opens onto a spacious dining room overlooking a secret garden; a separate comfortable living area with double sofa-bed leads to a tiny covered terrace for that evening drink watching the sun go down over the Tuscan hills. An oak staircase leads to two lofted double bedrooms and a small but perfectly formed bathroom with a mini-bath. A second, larger, contemporary shower-room is off the entry downstairs. The Lucca Loft is remarkable in its clever use of light and space, and the careful choice of contemporary finishes and furnishings which complement the building’s historic features. Top-quality bed linens and towels are provided, and air-conditioning and free WiFi bring it all firmly into the 21st century. The apartment is perfect for a quiet group of up to six adults or older children. One of the double beds can divide into twins if required; the living area can be curtained off from the dining room when in use as a bedroom.

Guests should note that the Loft is at the top of a four-storey building without an elevator, and so is unsuitable for those with restricted mobility; for others the wonderful light, space and views are well worth the climb! The excellent central location offers guests an abundance of choice of shopping, dining and sightseeing on their doorstep, while providing the perfect restful retreat after a day’s activities in this gem of a city.

The Lucca Loft is In the heart of Lucca's medieval city centre, in northwest Tuscany. We were very impressed by this lovely city. Perfectly enclosed within massive medieval walls, this delightful north Tuscan town has bags of charm and culture; cobbled lanes, Renaissance churches, manageable museums, stylish shops ; and relatively few tourists, especially considering how accessible it is via nearby Pisa airport.

Activities:

- Borrow a bicycle and cycle around the 4km of well-kept medieval walls
- Climb the Torre Guinigi, a 44-metre-high tower with a holm oak growing at the top
- Explore some of Lucca’s wonderful churches, including the cathedral of St Martin and San Frediano
- Browse through the shops
- Stop for a caffe in the open, oval piazza of the Anfiteatro
- Make a lovely day trip to Pisa, with its world-famous leaning tower and adjacent cathedral / museum, is only ½ hour away
- The Alpi Apuane mountains, with superb signed hiking trails and fantastic wildlife, are less than an hour’s drive
- If you prefer the beach: the Riviera of Versilia is a half hour away
